The Color of Water by James McBride

It makes sense that my first book review post is about my favorite (adult) book!
The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White MotherThe Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother by James McBride
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I'm reading this for the 4th or 5th time. The opposing chapters, odd numbered in his mother's voice, even in his, are a great way of showing how their lives intertwine. I read it over 12 years ago for a book club; when we discussed the characters, we constantly reminded each other they were real people. It is a great story of growth, love, survival, and although I have read many books, this is easily my favorite of them all.
